In HipHop culture, is a grillz (also known as Gold or frots) a type of jewelry/jewellery worn over the teeth. Grillz are made of metal and is generally removable.
They began to be worn by hiphopare in the early 1980's, but they became very popular during the mid-2000 because of the success of Dirty South rap.

Grillz are made of several types of metal (usually silver, gold or platinum) that are sometimes decorated with precious stones, they are generally removable, although some may be permanently attached to the teeth.
Grillz can cost anywhere from a few hundred dollars to several hundred thousand dollars, depending on materials used and the number of teeth covered.

Grillz worn mostly by male hip-hopare the ages of 18 to 35 years. Some have argued that grillz will never become mainstream, however, worn grillz by both men and women of all races,
at least to some extent, as well as by many celebrities far from hip-hop culture as Marilyn Manson and Travis Barker of Blink-182. Many members of metal band Avenged Sevenfold wear also uses grillz.
